Please bring plants to the meeting for Show-and-Tell! Both the spectacular and the not-so-spectacular are always welcome and appreciated!

Snacks are always much appreciated at our meetings, so if you will attend the next meeting, please consider bringing a snack!

If you are interested in being an officer, please let one of the current officers know! It really doesn't take up much time and is a lot of fun! It's also a good way to get to know other club members.

We had so much fun last year participating in the Missouri Orchid Society's show at the Missouri Botanical Gardens that we'd like to do it again! The Missouri Orchid Society Show & Sale will be February 5 & 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Beaumont Room at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. So start convincing your plants to bloom in time for the show! Remember, last year we won second place for overall display!

When watering in a hurry, Jan Markey of Kansas sometimes unintentionally allowed moisture to collect on her orchids’ leaves and stems. The sitting water would cause soft spots, mold and discoloration, and her orchids definitely showed signs of suffering. But Anne found a sweet solution to her problem. After pinching off the moldiest leaves, she lightly spritzed the plant with water. Then she took ordinary ground cinnamon — a natural fungicide — and dusted it on the orchid’s stem and foliage. Within a few days, the rot had dried up and the wounds had sealed. Now at the first sign of disease, Anne gives her orchids a sprinkle. They’ve never looked better! — From Garden Gate Issue 37

The last meeting was Saturday, October 9th at 2:30 pm at Birds Botanicals underground Orchid growing facility at Interstate Underground Storage. Nine members and guests attended and bought lots of plants. The best way to describe the visit is through photos.

The next meeting will be held in the Adams Conference Center, College of Veterinary Medicine, at 3:00 PM on November 14th. Howard Wilson will present a program on how to better photograph your orchid flowers and plants. Please bring several of your best photographs of flowers and plants to share with the club. There will be a slide projector (for slides)and overhead projector (for prints) along with a computer (for digital images) available to show your pictures to the club. Feel free to bring your photography equipment to try it out after the talk. Howard will be available to answer your camera questions. Also, Michelle Proctor may have some plants for auction.

Directions: From College, turn east (away from the main part of campus) on Rollins, at William turn South (right) into the parking lot and then veer towards the left and park in front of the big windows. Parking is right in front. The door is up the sidewalk in the corner between the buildings.
