Twenty five people attended the meeting on May 11, 2003 at the Boone Electric Community Room. Patrice Albert, Charles & Mary Dana, Conrad Feren, Barbara Giles, Nicholas Krekeler, Gertrude Lindener-Stawski, Steve Pagan, Michelle Proctor, and Howard Wilson brought plants for show and tell. Many thanks to Patrice Albert, Bobby Bogard, Charles and Mary Dana, and Michelle Proctor for providing snacks.

Members each received a ticket with a number. Those numbers were then randomally selected for the opportunity to choose a division from the Missouri Botanical Garden. The plants didn't last long and a good time was had by all!
|
Many thanks to Blanche "Babs" Wagner from the Missouri Botanical Gardens for providing us with the divisions!

Members then busily examined, discussed, and repotted plants, both the plants just purchased and plants brought from home.
Barbara demonstrated how to "gently" divide a plant.

| Next Meeting |
The next meeting will be Sunday, June 8 at 4:00 pm at Howard's Greenhouse, 4301 Red Rock Rd. If you get lost, call 874-1772 for directions. Car pooling is encouraged since the trip is 30 minutes from Columbia.
The safest directions are as follows; Go North on 63 to 124 West (left toward Harrisburg) Turn left (South) on YY (at Dibbens Store), Go to the end of YY, Turn left on Red Rock Rd, follow around the corner and down the hill, Black mail box 4301 on left.
Come see a greenhouse in progress; the bones are still visible, but the plants are happy. Light and cooling are the present big considerations and you can see what triple wall polycarbonate looks like.
We will discuss and practice mounting orchids. Barbara ordered from Carter and Holmes five different genera that can (but don't have to be) be mounted and will be $6.00 each. We'll have some supplies for mounting available too for those who need them. Please bring sticks, wire or fishing line, sphagnum moss, and plants.
Also please bring several of your orchids that have been mounted for a while so the rest of the club can see how they are doing. We would like to hear how often do you water then and about the lighting conditions.

| Tip of the Month |
|
Tom Bogard recommends using a mortar and pestle to grind up aspirin to a powder-like consistancy. It disolves much quicker in the water. (Remember, add 3/4 of a 325 mg tablet to 1 gallon of water.) Order 4743 Marble mortar & pestle ($19.99) from CHEF's at 1-800-338-3232.
